On finishing my first novel...

In 2018, I became a high-school English teacher for the NYC DOE. I also began working on a novel, which became For a Little Patch of Ground. It's a family saga about an interracial couple, set in Georgia from the years 1933-1967. The novel is a confrontation with my history as a Southerner, a vivisection of White-supremacy, and an homage to my family. Still, it's just a love story.

I wrote the book during my summer breaks, on weekends, and at night. The last two-hundred pages were written on a 1938 Royal typewriter and a 1976 Olympia Typewriter.

The novel clocks in at 503 pages. You can read more about the book here.
